Transportation Benefits

Do you need a ride to your medical appointment? We can help!

Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP) offers one-way or roundtrip rides at no cost to you. We offer two types of transportation:

  1. Transportation for people who need special assistance (known as Nonemergency Medical Transportation, or NEMT)
  2. Transportation for people who do not need special assistance (known as Nonmedical Transportation, or NMT)

Transportation for people who need special help: NEMT

This transportation is for people who need extra help and special vehicles, like a wheelchair van or ambulance, to get to medical appointments. It is for people who cannot travel in a regular car or bus.

When to use this service

  • Your appointment is covered by GCHP.
  • You need help getting to and from your home due to a disability.
  • You have a written OK from your provider.

How to schedule this ride

You must request an NEMT ride through your provider and receive their written consent. They will prescribe the best transportation method for your medical condition. Once your provider has given written approval for your NEMT request:

  • Schedule your ride by calling Ventura Transit System (VTS) at 1.855.628.7433, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you use a TTY, call 711. Call at least two business days before your appointment. For urgent appointments, please call as soon as possible. Be sure to have your member ID ready when you call.

Transportation for people who do not need special assistance: NMT

This service is for people who can travel in a regular car, taxi, or bus and do not need a special vehicle.

When to use this service

  • You need a ride to a Medi-Cal-covered medical, dental, or mental health appointment.
  • You need a ride to pick up medicine or medical supplies.
  • You need a ride to substance use disorder services.
  • You need a ride to a support group meeting.
  • You are unable to get other transportation.

How to schedule this ride

Call VTS at 1.855.628.7433, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you use a TTY, call 711. Call at least two business days before your appointment. For urgent appointments, please call as soon as possible. Be sure to have your member ID ready when you call.

Cost

Both types of transportation services are available at no cost to members.

Other options

Call VTS for more information about these options:

  • Get a one-month bus pass.
  • If you get a ride from a family member or friend, GCHP will pay for the mileage of the trip — but only if you couldn’t get a ride from VTS.
