AmericasHealth Plan (AHP) Member Transition

As of April 1, 2023, AmericasHealth Plan (AHP) is no longer contracted as a health plan with Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP). All AHP Medi-Cal members are GCHP members. Your benefits are not changing, and you will continue to have Medi-Cal coverage.

Members affected by the change will be notified by phone and mail (you can read the notice here).

Below are answers to some frequently asked questions (FAQs) that you may have about this transition.

The Medi-Cal Managed Care and Mental Health Office of the Ombudsman helps solve problems from a neutral standpoint to make sure that our members get all medically necessary covered services for which plans are contractually responsible. Call the Ombudsman’s office at 1.888.452.8609, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

AHP Member Transition Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is AmericasHealth Plan still contracted with Gold Coast Heath Plan (GCHP)?

As of April 1, 2023, AHP will no longer be contracted as a health plan with GCHP. The pilot program is ending on March 31, 2023. As of April 1, 2023, you will be a member of GCHP.

Does this affect my benefits?

No. Your Medi-Cal benefits are not changing, and you will continue to have Medi-Cal coverage.

Can I still be seen at my Clinicas del Camino Real (CDCR) clinic?

Yes. You will be assigned to the same CDCR clinic you were assigned to as an AHP member.

Will I have to change my primary care provider (PCP)?

No, you do not have to change your PCP. If you want to select a new PCP, you can:

  • Call GCHP Member Services at 1.888.301.1228, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except holidays). If you use a TTY, call 711.

OR

  • A list of doctors is available under the “For Members” tab in the “Find a Doctor” Section on the GCHP website.
    • Identify a new PCP.
    • Call GCHP Member Services to give your selection.

If I change my PCP, when will the change go into effect?

If you change your PCP between April 1, 2023, and May 31, 2023, the PCP change will take effect immediately as a part of the AHP transition.

Will I receive a new member ID card?

Yes. Your new member ID card will be mailed to the address we have on file.

Will GCHP accept my current authorizations?

Yes. If you have current authorizations for services with a specialist, hospital, or any other provider, GCHP will accept them. You will be able to receive those services. You do not have to take any action.

What will happen to future authorizations that are still pending review?

If you have pending authorizations for services with a specialist, hospital, or any other provider, GCHP will accept them. You do not have to take any action.

Will this affect my authorization for Ventura Transit System (VTS) transportation?

No. GCHP will accept current authorizations for VTS transportation.

Will this affect my dental coverage?

No, it will not affect your dental coverage.

Will this affect my pharmacy services?

No, it will not affect your pharmacy services.

Who do I call if I have questions about the continuation of my care?
